The Avalon Borough Council invites you to participate in a focus group with the Avalon Borough Council concerning street sweeping ordinances. The initial meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, in the Avalon Borough Council Chambers, 640 California Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15202, as part of the monthly Streets and Safety Committee Meeting.

In recent months, Avalon Borough has received numerous questions and complaints about street sweeping procedures and the enforcement of Street Sweeping Ordinances. The Avalon Borough Council, the Department of Public Works, and the Police Department are seeking additional feedback from residents regarding their concerns and potential solutions to problems that have arisen due to the street sweeping schedule and parking limitations.

Please contact the Borough Administration Office at (412) 761-5820 if you cannot attend the initial organizational meeting but would still like to participate in the focus group. You can also call the office to submit comments and concerns for Council’s consideration.

Do Not Knock - No Solicitation List.

Avalon Borough Council recently passed an updated solicitation ordinance regarding door-to-door salespeople to protect the safety and well-being of Borough residents.

The last update to the ordinance was passed in 1963. The previous ordinance did not include the ability for residents to be placed on a No Solicitation/Do Not Knock list, nor did it provide the Police Department with a tool to complete full background checks on solicitation permit applicants. The new ordinance includes these measures, and it raises the daily solicitor fee from $10 to $30.

We encourage you to read the full, updated ordinance here.

Above is a link to sign up for the No Solicitation/Do Not Knock List. Paper sign-up forms also are available at the Police Station and Borough Administration Office.

Small No Solicitation placards will be available for pickup at the Police Station and Borough Administration Office for individuals who have signed up for the No Solicitation/Do Not Knock List. While we encourage you to display the placard at your residence, it is not a requirement of the No Solicitation/Do Not Knock List.

As always, if a salesperson knocks on your door and doesn’t have the Borough of Avalon Solicitation Permit prominently displayed, please call 911 to notify the Avalon Police Department.
